Hi folks! Cabin fever got you down yet? This is the time of year that we are receiving our colorful spring flower and seed catalogs and mags, and we start wishful thinking…while the wind whips outside and the forecasts call for more ice/snow/freezing rain. Look on the bright side, all the precipitation is going to benefit your garden later, along with the wells and reservoirs! To a gardener, this means good times a-coming for spring! For now, this time of year is the best time to ready your indoor seed starting endeavors and get those garden plans started! It is also a great time to take a long look at the bare bones of your landscape and do a little creative thinking in regard to winter interest, as well as placement of new plants. Think 4-season garden…in other words, spring blooming plants; early-midsummer bloomers to take over and hide faded spring foliage and flowers; late summer flowers and shrubs; fall bloomers and fall leaf color; as well as colorful bark and berries and interesting shapes for winter interest. Don’t just think “evergreen” this time of year. A great landscape has interest all year round! Last, but not least, if you feed the birds, continue to do so throughout the winter.
