DPS and Durham educators to hold kitchen table conversation
DURHAM -- The Durham Association of Educators and Durham Public Schools are developing a proposal for a national grant to improve academic success for black males in selected schools. Suggestions are needed for the proposal. Black males have been identified as the group most in need of support to improve academic success.
Parents, students, teachers and community members are invited to
discuss this important topic at a Kitchen Table Conversation that DPS and the DAE are co-hosting on Sept. 15.
The Kitchen Table Conversation will be held at W.G. Pearson Magnet Elementary School, 3501
Fayetteville St., on Sept. 15 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Facilitators will be on hand to help with the discussion.
Participants are asked to RSVP online or to Carrie Johnson, DPS Public Affairs Office, at 560-
3652 or e-mail carrie.johnson2@dpsnc.net
DAE and DPS are seeking input from stakeholders toward the development of a proposal to the National Educators Association Foundation. If funded, the grant would
implement strategies for closing achievement gaps among African-American males and their peers. Data analysis identified African-American males as an audience of most urgent need.
